Newburyport is easily accessible by all means – whether it be by car, rail, plane, water or bus. We are located just 35 miles north of Boston accessible by Routes 95, 495 and 1.

If flying to Logan International Airport, we are only 34 miles away with estimated driving time of 48 minutes. Manchester, NH Airport is just 50 miles to our north and estimated driving time of 58 minutes.

By Car:

FROM ROUTE 95:
Take exit 57 and follow signs to downtown Newburyport.

FROM BOSTON:
Take Route 1 north to Route 95 north to exit 57. Follow signs to downtown Newburyport.

FROM ROUTE 495:
Follow to Route 95, then  south to exit 57. Follow signs to downtown Newburyport.

PARKING:
Newburyport has several Free Municipal Parking lots with a 3 hour limit. The largest Municipal lot is on the corner of Green and Merrimac Streets. There is also a lot on State Street next to the Library on on Hale Court off Pleasant Street. There is also on-street parking with a 2-hour limit.

The Newburyport Redevelopment Authority runs 2 waterfront parking lots on the east and west sides of Waterfront Park. You can access them by Merrimac Street or Water Street. These lots are generally free and all-day parking. There is a fee charged Friday-Sunday in the Summer. 

How to get to Newburyport by car


By Train:

The MBTA runs a line from North Station to Newburyport. For further information call the MBTA Customer Service at 1-800-392-6100 or visit the MBTA web site www.mbta.com 

By Water:

Newburyport is located at the mouth of the Merrimack River. Call Ralph Steele, the Newburyport Harbormaster at (978) 462-3746 for specific information on your trip to Newburyport.  Click here for a list of our member Boat Yards and Marinas.

By Air:

Plum Island Community Airfield is located on the Plum Island Turnpike, just a few short miles from downtown. Contact them at www.plumislandairport.org
